About Indiecoffer
Indiecoffer is an independent publication for people who work for themselves: freelancers, independent contractors, consultants, creators and one-person businesses in the United States.
When you leave a payroll job, a long list of things your employer quietly handled becomes your job: withholding taxes, saving for retirement, choosing health insurance, protecting yourself against claims. Our goal is to explain each of those jobs clearly enough that you can handle it with confidence, or know exactly what to ask a professional.
What we publish
- Step-by-step guides with worked examples, not vague overviews.
- Comparisons that explain the trade-offs rather than pushing one answer.
- Free tools, like our self-employment tax calculator, that run entirely in your browser.
How we work
Every guide is researched from primary sources such as IRS publications, HealthCare.gov and state agencies, and is reviewed when rules change. We say when a figure is an example or tied to a specific tax year. Read our full editorial policy.
How we make money
Indiecoffer is supported by advertising. Advertisers do not choose or review our topics, and ads are clearly separated from editorial content. If we ever use affiliate links, we will label them on the page where they appear.
Important note
Our content is educational and general. It is not personal tax, legal, insurance or investment advice. For decisions with real money at stake, talk to a CPA, enrolled agent, attorney or licensed insurance professional.
